Daring Greatly

During the first few months of this year, Trevor and I wrote a series of blog posts inspired by Sarah Bessey’s book Out of Sorts. We were blessed so much by Sarah’s work and greatly enjoyed talking with her for the inaugural Sacred Margins Podcast.

As Fall begins, we wanted to do something similar. Although this time we won’t be working through a book chapter-by-chapter, we wanted to introduce you to another person who has impacted us and work through some of her material.
So over the next few weeks we’ll be talking about some material inspired by the book Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. If you’re not familiar with Dr. Brown, she is a researcher and author on the subjects of shame, courage and vulnerability. But the title “researcher” does so little justice to her work. She is a story teller, an engaging speaker and an honest voice of truth. Her TED talk is one of the most-viewed in history.

Plus she’s a Texas girl, which is a major bonus 🙂

I recently taught a class at my church working through this book and it’s amazing how often we would stop and say, “That’s gospel.” Even though she was talking in a wholly different arena and wasn’t talking about God or Jesus or the cross, the truth in this book cuts very much to the heart of what it means to be human and how we live authentic lives in the world.

We’ll be highlighting different portions of this book in the coming weeks and talking through some of the material. I highly encourage you to pick it up sometime and perhaps read through it with us like many of you did with Sarah’s book. I have no doubt you will be blessed by it.
